Solar Power Generation Activities and Implementations

4.3 Groundwater Development Project for Agriculture Using Solar Energy

The Department of Groundwater Resources had undergone the “Groundwater Development Project for Agriculture Using Solar Energy, with the objective to assist farmers by providing reserve water sources for agricultural activities during drought periods or dry spells. The project helped generated revenues for farmers, improved quality of life, reduced social inequality, minimized migration, and ensured water security.

The groundwater system comprised of a groundwater well, solar-powered pumping system, steel water storage tank, and water distribution system designed to cover areas of 60, 300, and 500 rai, available according to necessity (Figure 4.4 - 4.5).

In 2023, the Department of Groundwater Resources had completed a total of 202 projects, comprised of 150 Groundwater Development Projects for Agriculture with Solar Energy covering 60 rai each, 16 Groundwater Development for Large-Scale Agriculture covering 300 rai each, and 36 Groundwater Development Projects for Large-Scale Agriculture covering 500 rai each. These projects helped increased the water reservoirs at least 13.41 million cubic meters year, benefiting more than 1,900 farming households across more than 31,800 rai of agricultural land. Upon 2023, the Department of Groundwater Resources had completed a total of 1,371 projects spanning over 66 provinces. These projects have benefited 82,260 rai of land and 10,968 households, and increased water reservoirs 44.42 million cubic meters.
